This is the TINAlisa Patterns Aurora dress, the newest pattern from the German designer. I’d never sewn a TINAlisa pattern before but I highly recommend them! Well, at least this one – the instructions were super detailed and the dress came together really well!
As I mentioned before, I was gifted this fabric from Zingara Organic Fabrics which has a webshop based in New Zealand and recently opened another in Germany. I’ve been buying from Zingara for years and was so excited to sew up this bright, fun fabric! All of Zingara’s designs have beautiful colour schemes and unique designs and they’re printed on high-quality, GOTS-certified fabrics in Germany. In fact, I like Zingara so much that I have been known to ask my Kiwi friends to save some space in their luggage to bring me home fabric when they go to New Zealand to visit family… 😄
Back to the dress: I used about 1.4m to make this dress but I have some smaller offcuts that I’ll use to make accessories (think this dress needs a matching headband).
The pattern itself was SO detailed, but like most European patterns did not include a seam allowance and interestingly, also only included finished garment measurements chart (no size chart). I made a size 36 based off of the finished measurements, shortened it a little to suit my height (the pattern is drafted for your average tall German) and it turned out great!
The only changes I’d make would be to take the sides in a little more to make sure the bodice fits snuggly (important on a wrap top/dress!) and make it with a half-circle skirt next time instead of the gathered skirt as per instructions – that’s just a matter of preference though. I did add a snap to the centre front to avoid gaping, but this was rather out of caution than a concern with the fit.
Overall I’m really happy with the pattern, the fabric and the beautiful weather we’ve been having! This dress has already gotten plenty of wear – now to sew up the rest of my Zingara stash!
